What Is the Hello I’m Sorry Website and How Does It Work

Hello I’m Sorry is a small website for the words people never got to say. You write a short letter to a first name, and that person can find it later by searching their name. No account, no phone number, no email.

Some people use it to apologize. Some say thank you, I miss you, or goodbye. Many letters are for people they can no longer message directly, like an ex, an old friend, or someone who has passed away.

How it works in 3 steps

1. Open the Write page and type the first name of the person the letter is for.
2. Pick a mood (sorry, love, thank you, miss you or goodbye), write your message and sign with any name or nickname.
3. Press Send. Your letter gets its own page, a share image and a web story.

How people find letters

Every first name has its own page. If someone searches their name on the Browse page, they see every public letter written to that name. Many people share a name, so a letter is never proof that it is about one exact person. That is part of the idea: if it feels like yours, it might be.

Public or private

Public letters appear on the wall and on the name page. Private letters do not appear anywhere on the site. Only someone with the link can read a private letter, so you can send it to one person.

Can I edit or delete my letter?

Yes. After you send a letter, you get a secret edit link. Save it. With that link you can change the message, switch it to private, or delete it for good. We cannot recover the link for you, because we do not know who you are.

How the site stays kind

• Phone numbers, emails, links and social handles are removed automatically.
• Letters with abusive words wait for a review before they show.
• Anyone can report a letter, and anyone can ask to remove a letter that is about them.
